Vinnie's Interview

Class project we did for photo media.  Did this in two days, so it's not as good as I could make it.  Revision will be coming later this summer when I get the program to make edits.

Take Two!

Photography:  that is something that brings to mind darkrooms, film, and classic black and white prints.  Though still taught and utilized, the program has been evolving with the new technologies of the modern world.  Students at SFCC are now expected to be comfortable with film and digital format as well as numerous complex computer programs.

Where still photography was the launch pad for such magazines such as T.I.M.E. and National Geographic, video has become the new medium to keep up with the increasingly popular use of Internet by businesses and consumers.

Ira Gardner teaches several courses designed to give students an edge in the competitive world of keeping memories and pushing products.  The courses are fast-paced and intense.  Equipment and brief instruction are provided and students are sent on do-or-die missions…I mean assignments.

The frustrations of trying to learn Garage Band, Final Cut, InDesign, and Dreamweaver programs in one quarter are compounded by trying to figure out how the heck that darn video camera works.

After going through one quarter of photo media, students can now add director and producer to their resumes as well as scriptwriter.

Through the tears and curses, deep down we are grateful for the competitive edge we have been given.

HOOPFEST DREAMS

Each year, over fifty thousand people flock together in a little big city called Spokane. Teams from all over the nation practice all year around for the chance to be the Hoopfest Champions. From elementary students, to working adults; this is the chance to be the best.

Spokane is riddled with such teams. Many have been on the same squad for years and in the spring when the weather warms up, players from all around Spokane play pick-up games at the many public parks.

Chief Gary Park is proudly boasting of new playground equipment and a water fountain feature for children to cool of in the hot summer. Behind the playground there is a vast expanse of softball fields that host various leagues. The sounds of kids playing and strike calls are blended with the recognizable bounce of the basketball.

The intensity is noticeable, this is no recreational game; there is hardly any talking or court challenges as each team relentlessly practices for their dream to come true. Players are focused on the realization of their dream: to be the Champion.

The next time you drive by one of these parks, think of what the basketball court and that basket means to this awesome city we call home.

Got My License!!!

This is my first video using Garage Band and Final Cut Pro.  It's very amateur because I have never used these programs before.  It was for a photo media class.  If you can get over the mistakes, it's a pretty funny story!

Lady??? Maybe??? -- By: Shelley Ann Ruddell

For those of you who are not familiar with Veronica Evans, she is a fascinating character. She attends Spokane Falls Community College and is in the Photography program. During your first encounter with Ms. Evans, she can seem very straight forward and direct, but loving nonetheless (when you get to know her). She is an intensely passionate person and a woman with a purpose. Driven is an understatement for the many set goals she strives to accomplish in her life.

When asked to be the subject for a photo shoot, there is no hesitation, she jumps right in with no reservations. Her photographer, Melissa Howe, sets up the studio and begins envisioning the fashion shot to come.

Meanwhile, Veronica is in the dressing room transforming into a sophisticated lady, different from her normal “shoot from the hip” persona. For a brief moment, she convinces us all that there could possibility be a more refined Veronica......

But, it just wouldn’t be her style. Veronica marches to a the beat of her own drum, and as her friend, I wouldn’t tell her to change for anything. The photography program at school would not be the same without her zealousness.

Whether she is a “true” lady or not, we all love her just the same, well, most of us at least. Maybe, just maybe there’s hope for her yet!

Rollerblading on the Centennial Trail

Centennial Trail, Liberty Lake, Wa
Veronica Evans excercise day

Lacing up the rollarblades

Starting out on the trail

Getting up

This is a great place to rollarblade.  It is about 20 minutes East of Spokane.  The trail is located right beside the river, so even on hot days like this, the breeze is refreshing.  Watch out for snakes though!

New Book!!

NEW BOOK PUBLISHED!

Yakima Hopfest
So, I went to the Moxy Hopfest with my crazy sister and friends this past weekend. Oh, my lord, I forgot how much fun and how exasperating being the sober one in the group can be. State fairs, rodeos, and beerfests all have things in common.

You are reminded of why you love your own family so much after attending such an event. My dear sister tried to get arrested by every man in a cop uniform, it was hilarious!

Ever notice how the majority (females-and yes I know I'm bashing on my own kind here, but I'm the sober one, I can) feel the need to exaggerate the volume of their blabbing so anyone around a 20-30 yard vicinity can know the history of their gallstone or birthing experience? Yep, it happened here too.

I'm so grateful for my sober, clean, and quiet friends I can come home to...after getting hit on (not that it's necessarily detrimental to my ego) by so many drunk men who think they are my answer to great sex and free beer. I am still quite amused by the entire experience.

Because I had an expensive looking camera I guess I looked less threatening to the girlfriends accompanying many of the above described intoxicated men. Thank goodness, because it probably would have been a disaster if they wanted to kick my ass. I don't fight but I can run damn fast in those stilettos. Problem is I'm quite clumsy and most likely would have killed myself trying to get away! Ha

Another thing that drunk people do, especially females, are very loud public announcements that rival football game bullhorns. There were at least twenty Port-potties and for each one there must have been ten matter-of-fact general statements of "I have to pee". Well, I shouldn't be surprised, alcohol has the diuretic effect on the elimination system. I really didn't need to know when this function was occurring though.

I made it through the night, freezing but with some funny pictures. I may post a few later. If you had some good laughs at this blog, it's probably because you can relate with my experiences, you poor soul.
